Guwahati: The internal territorial disputes in Assam have reduced to a large extent after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention last year and the formation of the 2020 Assam Peace Accord, a top Bodoland leader said on Thursday.

“Around 1-2 years back, people in Bodoland-Kokrajhar area were scared of stepping out. But, after the 2020 Peace Accord, and when PM came to Kokrajhar and told people that he won’t let any more blood spill in Bodoland, people gathered courage,” Pramod Boro, CEM of the Bodoland Territorial Region, said in Kokrajhar.

Boro said that the Assam Peace Accord has helped bring several communities and institutions on the same page.

“For 100% implementation of what PM said, the Bodoland government is making efforts to bring all institutions, communities, everyone together. Earlier, people were scared of stepping out after 5 pm in Kokrajhar or any town of Bodoland, now you can see them out up to 9-10 pm even 12 midnight,” he said.

However, he has drawn the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah towards the issue of illegal weapon infusion into the politically-delicate society, citing examples of how several people have been killed but the perpetrators are still at large.

“A huge transformation has set in. But, I’d like to tell HM that illegal weapons are still being recovered in Bodoland. Between 2008 and 2010, several people were killed in fratricide, but the perpetrators are still not behind bars. They should be punished. We’ll demand a report of CBI inquiry into the earlier conflict. The CBI inquiry should also be done into the killings after 2008. We are ready to be a part of the development. We have decided to immediately implement the schemes proposed by the cental and state governments,” he told news agency ANI.
