COVID-19 vaccination numbers cross 50 crore-mark; PM Narendra Modi reassures free inoculation for all

India's Covid-19 vaccination coverage on Friday crossed the 50 crore-landmark milestone.

New Delhi: India's Covid-19 vaccination coverage on Friday crossed the 50 crore-landmark milestone. As per the 7 pm provisional report released by the health ministry today, India’s cumulative COVID vaccination coverage has crossed 50 crore landmark milestone (50,03,48,866).

"22,93,781 vaccine doses were administered as first dose and 4,32,281 vaccine doses given as second dose in the age group 18-44 years today. Cumulatively, 17,23,20,394 persons in the age group 18-44 years across 37 States/UTs have received their first dose and total 1,12,56,317 have received their second dose since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination drive," the health ministry stated.

Expressing his happiness over the COVID vaccine coverage, Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi assured the people that government would ensure each individual is vaccinated at the earliest.

"India’s fight against COVID-19 receives a strong impetus. Vaccination numbers cross the 50 crore mark. We hope to build on these numbers and ensure our citizens are vaccinated under #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine movement," PM Modi tweeted.

Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have administered more than 1 crore cumulative doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the age group 18-44 years so far. Notably, UP crossed the 5 crore mark on August 3.

Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand and West Bengal have vaccinated more than 10 lakh beneficiaries of the age group 18-44 years for the first dose of COVID vaccine, the health ministry release said.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya took to Twitter to announce the historic milestone that India achieved today.

Mandaviya congratulated the countrymen and thanked the health workers who are working tirelessly in the COVID pandemic era.

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of providing free COVID-19 vaccine to all the countrymen, the health minister presented the data of the vaccine coverage.

Currently, Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V vaccine doses are being administered in India.

Covishield is being manufactured by Serum Institute of India, Covaxin being developed by Bharat Biotech and Sputnik V vaccine is a Russian vaccine being marketed by Dr Reddy's Laboratories in India.

The Health Ministry today informed that over 2.30 crore balance and unutilised COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with states, Union Territories and private hospitals.

The new phase of universalisation of COVID-19 vaccination was commenced from June 21, 2021. The central government procures and supplies 75 per cent of the vaccines being produced in the country to states and Union Territories.
